The Removal Trick

It was a warm evening in June and Dean Davis, a P.I., was right in the middle of his current mission. An all-routine job. “I'm pretty sure my wife is cheating on me.”, his client, Dr Gamble had said. “All I need would be some photos in order to prove it. The divorce will become far less expensive, you know.” “Maybe old guys of 68 shouldn't be married to 38-year-old women.”, Dean had thought, but that was none of his business. In fact his business was to prove that Mrs Gamble had an affair with Jim Rose, the gardener. And that was exactly what he was doing on this warm evening.

A hug, some kisses, the camera was clicking. Dean was sitting in a tree on the other side of the road and was watching the unfolding events in Dr Gamble's opulent garden. Mrs Gamble and Jim Rose were quite busy proving Dr Gamble's case. Suddenly Dean's attention was drawn away from the busy couple. At the neighbor's house a van was just arriving. The logo on the door said “Mc Alister Removals”. “I know that company.”, Dean thought. “It's definitely McAllister, not McAlister. Is this a random mistake, or...?” To be sure, he called Dr Gamble. “Excuse me, Dr Gamble, are your neigbors in number 116 going to move anytime soon?” “Bill and Jane? No way. They have just celebrated the tenth anniversary of their wedding. None of them is moving away. And they love that house. ” “Well, then I will have to call the police. It looks like there are burglars in your neighbors' house. Dean called the police. They arrived in time to arrest a gang of four burglars. They had been playing the removal trick for some time in different parts of the town. Dean received a reward. And as for Dr and Mrs Gamble, they managed to solve their crisis and became a happy couple again.
