Solution

Routine

Inspector Fox was sitting in his office and he was reflecting about his upcoming holiday. "Next week at this time I will be sitting on the beach. No-one will disturb me  and I will drink many cocktails."

Suddenly somebody did disturb the inspector's thoughts  by knocking at the door. "Come in!", Fox shouted, for the door was very thick.  His assistant Wolfe entered. "Sir, we must leave. There has been a murder in Garden Street, Brickwell. Two men were fighting and suddenly one of them stabbed the other! Wolfe nodded. "Let's go, then."

At the crime site the alleged perpetrator was begging in German. "Herr Inspektor, sie müssen mir glauben. Ich war es nicht." Fox was puzzled. "What does he say, Wolfe? "He says you must believe him, Sir. And that he hasn't done it/didn't do it/wasn't the one to do it. "Well.", Fox replied, "We'll see about that. Let's start the investigation."
